History
After experiencing colonialism and racial segregation, universal suffrage for all races was achieved in 1994, transforming into a democratic nation.
Following Portuguese navigator's arrival at the Cape of Good Hope in the late 15th century, Cape Colony developed as a supply port for the Dutch East India Company. In the 19th century, conflict between Britain and Boers escalated into the Boer Wars, leading to the formation of the Union of South Africa in 1910. Apartheid policies were institutionalized from 1948, resulting in international isolation, but the De Klerk administration abolished segregation laws after 1990. In 1994, Nelson Mandela became president, marking a fresh start as a constitutional democratic nation.
