Etiquette
- Always use the right hand when giving or receiving food or gifts.
- It is considered impolite for men to extend their hand first to women.
- Business or conversation may be interrupted during Islamic prayer times.
- Photography should especially avoid women, military facilities, and government buildings.
- Alcohol and intoxication in public spaces are strictly prohibited.
- Stand when greeting tribal leaders or elders, using the honorific 'Sheikh.'
- Showing someone the sole of your shoe is considered insulting.
- When invited to a home, remove shoes at the entrance and wait to be shown to the guest room's seat of honor.
- During Ramadan, it is polite to refrain from eating, drinking, and smoking during daylight hours.
- You may be offered khat (stimulant plant), but declining is not impolite.
