Etiquette
- Sunday is considered a day of rest with many shops closed; refrain from unnecessary activities
- When visiting villages, always greet the chief (matai) and obtain permission
- Remove shoes when entering churches or inside homes
- Avoid extremely revealing clothing except at beaches
- Obtain prior permission for photography involving people or private property
- Wait until elders at meals start eating first
- Passing objects with only the left hand is considered rude
- Do not touch the central pillar or pillows in fale (traditional houses)
- Remain quiet and refrain from going out during the evening bell kolofo
- Shouting or cursing in public places is taboo
