Etiquette
- Use titles "meneer" or "mevrouw" for elders
- "Suriname Time" of arriving slightly late to appointments is tolerated
- Bringing small sweets or flowers when invited to a home leaves a good impression
- There is little custom of removing shoes, but check with the host if the floor is carpeted
- Always ask permission before taking photos; prohibited at sacred sites and military facilities
- Passing items with only the left hand is considered rude
- Talking loudly in public places is discouraged
- Cover skin and remove hats when visiting religious sites
- Be considerate of eating in front of Muslims during Ramadan
- Tipping is not mandatory but 10% at restaurants is common
