Etiquette
- Loud public arguments are frowned upon; gentle tone is preferred.
- When handing items to elders, use the right hand while supporting the right elbow with the left hand for politeness.
- People are relatively punctual; lateness for meetings or business is negatively viewed.
- Photography is prohibited at military facilities, airports, and government buildings; always ask permission before photographing residents.
- Eating by hand is common, but urban areas use cutlery; avoid using only the left hand.
- When invited to a home, bringing small gifts (tea, sugar, soap) is appreciated.
- Eating or smoking while walking is considered impolite.
- Sunday mornings are church time for many families; business appointments should be avoided.
- Public displays of affection (such as kissing) should be modest.
- Plastic bags are completely banned. Use reusable bags or paper bags.
