History
Originating from Kievan Rus, passed through Imperial Russia and the Soviet Union, establishing the Russian Federation in 1991.
Originating from the Kievan Principality of the 9th century, Ivan the Terrible established the Russian Tsardom in the 16th century. Peter the Great declared an empire in the 18th century, and Catherine the Great expanded to the Black Sea. The Russian Revolution of 1917 collapsed the imperial regime, forming the Soviet Union in 1922. After World War II, it engaged in the Cold War as one of the two superpowers alongside the United States. When the Soviet Union dissolved in 1991, the Russian Federation was born, experiencing market economy transformation and political system reorganization. The economy temporarily recovered under Putin's administration, but since the 2000s, it has entered a new phase due to resource dependency, foreign conflicts, and international sanctions following the 2022 invasion of Ukraine.
