Etiquette

  • Hand items to elders with the right hand only, not both hands

  • Greetings are long and it is polite to inquire about each other's well-being
  • Avoid business during prayer times
  • Obtain permission before taking photos
  • Women should wear clothing that covers shoulders and knees
  • At meals, elder persons eat first from the communal plate
  • Gifts should be given in odd numbers for good luck
  • Negotiations follow "Malian time" and take time
  • Be moderate with alcohol in public places
