Etiquette
- At temples, remove shoes and hats, wear clothing covering shoulders and knees.
- Taking photos with back to Buddha statue is considered disrespectful.
- Pass items with right hand; left hand is considered unclean.
- Patting the head is rude even for children.
- Keep public displays of affection modest.
- When touching women, wait for them to extend their hand first.
- When invited to a home, remove shoes and bring small gift.
- Meals are basically eaten with right hand, using only fingertips.
- Poya days (full moon days) are alcohol-free days with banned alcohol sales.
- Always obtain permission before taking photographs as courtesy.
