Etiquette
- In temples, remove hats and shoes and wear clothing that covers shoulders and knees
- Show respect to elders with a deeper sampeah
- Touching the head is considered rude, even for children
- The left hand is considered unclean, pass items with the right hand or both hands
- During meals, take food from communal plates to your own bowl
- Avoid raising your voice or shouting in public places
- Do not point the soles of your feet toward people or Buddha statues
- Disrespecting the national flag or Angkor Wat imagery is considered insulting
- Ask permission before photographing monks or soldiers
- More sensitive to the condition (tears, stains) of US dollar bills than local currency
