History
From the 1707 Act of Union forming the kingdom to the expansion of the British Empire, followed by two World Wars establishing the current United Kingdom framework.
Following Roman rule and the Anglo-Saxon period, feudalism was established with the Norman Conquest of 1066. After the Reformation and Glorious Revolution in the 16th-17th centuries, England and Scotland united in 1707 to form the Kingdom of Great Britain. In the 18th-19th centuries, industrial revolution and naval power built the British Empire, ruling one-quarter of the world's land. The empire contracted after two World Wars and decolonization. Post-1945, the welfare state and Thatcher reforms transitioned to a service economy, with Brexit from the EU in 2020. Charles III ascended in 2022 to the present.
